Don't help 'DAP's friend', MCA Youth sec-gen asks party to skip state polls

An MCA Youth leader is urging the party to give the upcoming state polls a miss to teach those who are now "friends" with DAP a lesson.

This was amid tensions within BN over Umno supreme council member Lokman Noor Adam calling MCA and MIC "biawak hidup" (dead weight).

MCA Youth secretary-general Daniel Wa (above) said the party had been loyal to BN even when the coalition was at its lowest and component parties left in droves.

"But now that they have a new friend in DAP, they thump their chests and no longer need MCA and MIC, who were called biawak hidup," he said in a statement today.

As such, he said MCA should not field candidates in the upcoming state polls or help candidates who became arrogant after befriending DAP.

It is unclear if MCA and MIC have been allocated any seats in BN's seat negotiations with Pakatan Harapan.

Lokman had referred to MCA and MIC as a dead weight while commenting on how the two Umno allies have not been contributing to BN's performance at the polls.

He said this would have been fine if MCA and MIC had been "loyal" partners.

However, he accused MCA president Wee Ka Siong and MIC deputy president M Saravanan of "betrayal" for initially signing statutory declarations supporting Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister in the immediate aftermath of the 15th general election.

As such, he said if the two parties wanted to contest in the upcoming polls, they needed to prove that they can get non-Malay support first.

This prompted backlash from MCA and MIC, with MCA vice-president Ti Lian Ker dubbing Lokman a DAP spokesperson.

The Umno supreme council person retorted that he is only defending the coalition government.

Lokman, and others in the Umno leadership, however, have been at work trying to convince their support base to accept cooperation with DAP, despite past animosity.
